My daughter Gia loves fashion and she loves knowing and following the latest trends. This girl has been into fashion since she could dress herself. I had a short time in her life (infant Gia) when I was able to dress her in cute baby clothes.
Even as a little kid, Gia fully took control of her style, and has always known exactly what she liked and what she was going to wear. Now 13, Gia is constantly up-to-date on what’s trending, and I love watching her express who she is through fashion.
10 Teen Fall Fashion Trends For 2024

“OK Gia, let’s go! Give me your top 10 trends,” I said, while trying to pull her away from her phone. She immediately started listing off her favorite trends, zero hesitation: Baggy jeans, chunky gold jewelry, cheetah print…I jotted everything down, as quickly as I could.
“Wait– what?” I start laughing. “Cheetah Print? Gia, I have never seen you wear animal print anything.”
“Oh really Mom?” she replied, with loads of teenager sarcasm. “Then what’s this?” She holds up cheetah print tank top.
Ok, I was wrong, she’s got this.
After her list was written, I had choose her top pick in each category, and we also pulled together some shopping widgets for more options. If you have teenagers in your life, it’s pretty safe to say this is what’s trending in the teen fall fashion world, so if back-to-school shopping is still happening, hopefully this helps!
1. Low Rise Baggy Jeans

Jeans (similar wash at Nordstrom)
Gia is really into low-rise baggy jeans for a bunch of reasons. First, they’re super versatile—you can pair them with anything from crop tops to oversized tees and hoodies, so you get tons of different looks. Plus, they’re super comfy. You can move around easily, and they’re way more breathable than those tighter high-rise jeans.
High-rise, tight jeans can be pretty restrictive and often cut into your waist in weird places. For her, high-rise jeans are either too tight around the waist or don’t fit right around the hips and booty. But with low-rise baggy jeans, she doesn’t have to deal with those issues.
2. Adidas Campus

Sneakers
Gia is all about adidas Campus sneakers because they’re super comfy and have lots of cushioning. She loves that they’re easy to slide on—perfect for when she’s in a rush and doesn’t want to deal with laces. Plus, these sneakers go with everything — from jeans and leggings to shorts and even dresses, though the girls are still rocking Nikes with their mini dresses.
But adidas Campus sneaks have that cool Hip Hop and Skater vibe that Adidas has always done so well (and the fact that influencers and celebrities are all about them definitely helps, too).
3. Cropped Tees

Cropped Tee
A cropped tee is effortless and – according to Gia – goes with any bottom. “Literally any bottom,” direct quote. A cropped tee is a nice balance for the baggier pants that are trending, and really show off curves. (Personally, I pair my cropped tees with high-waisted leggings or jeans—it really is a simple – but cute – look!)
4. Tube Tops

Tube Top
Tube tops are such a staple for Gia (and me! — I’m all about the bare shoulders and collarbones). Tube tops are sleek, elegant, and just the right amount of sexy without being too revealing. Plus, you can wear them with anything, anywhere. Dress them up, dress them down, etc.
Now, Gia has a little added bonus—she loves them for all those reasons, but get this: she’s really into showing off her tan lines from the summer. I didn’t even know this was a thing, but apparently, it’s trendy among teenage girls. I guess they haven’t learned from us about sunscreen and skin damage yet, but hey, they’ll figure it out eventually, just like we did.
5. Mini Skirt

Mini Skirt
Mini skirts are so much fun with that playful, flirty vibe. You can dress them up or down, depending on where you’re headed. They even work year-round if you throw on some tights and boots. They’ve been around forever and somehow always stay trendy.
Gia loves rocking them casually during the day with her friends, but she also knows how to dress them up for an event. That said, a mini skirt isn’t something she’d feel comfortable wearing to school, but for hanging out with friends? It’s the perfect fit.
6. Flared Leggings (Bonus Points For a Folded Waistband)

Leggings
Oh, the fold-over leggings—I totally remember those! I was such a big fan. They’re super comfy, and that fold-over waistband feels really good and secure. Gia loves that you can fold them to make them low-rise, and I remember loving how you could adjust the rise to be as low or high as you wanted. Foldover waistband or not, flares are everywhere right now and are definitely Gia’s favorite!
7. Chunky Gold Jewelry

Bracelet l Ring
Gia is all about chunky gold jewelry because it’s easy to layer and really makes a statement. It’s bold, strong, and definitely makes you stand out. I’m totally into it, too—I always feel so empowered when I’m wearing chunky gold pieces. There’s just this goddess vibe to it, and I’m here for it! Oh, and The Mom Edit recently did a collab with local jewelry brand, Raising Surfers, and made some chunky gold pieces (just restocked!) Check out this necklace and ring (use code MOMEDIT10 for 10% off).
8. Maxi Dresses

Maxi Dress
This teen trend is worth noting, but it’s not necessarily for everyday. Gia said, “A maxi dress isn’t really something I’d wear to school this fall, but I like them for going out to dinner or something.” Maxi dresses can be casual or fancy, and come in all kinds of styles, from cotton to silk. They’re one of those pieces you can just throw on and instantly look put together.
9. Low Rise Flare Jeans

Jeans
I remember when this trend first went out and high-rise jeans took over. All of us who rocked low-rise in the ‘90s were so relieved, for a little extra give and comfort. And now, here we are—they’re back! What do we think? Are we excited about this, or a little hesitant?
Gia hasn’t tried the trend yet, but she’s definitely curious. I have a feeling she’ll end up loving them. Honestly, I’m kind of surprised to realize that I’m actually interested in giving them another shot, too. Just for fun.
10. Cheetah and Leopard Print

Pants
Gia’s really into cheetah and leopard prints because they’re different, daring, and make a strong statement. She’s not quite ready to rock this bold of a look at school yet, but she’s loving the cheetah pieces when hanging out with friends and family.
Gia and I are both excited to try out some of these teen fall fashion trends, and see how they work for us. Gia wants to note that just because something’s trending doesn’t mean she always jumps on board. If you’re not into it or it doesn’t suit you, no worries— just move on to something you like better!
Have fun experimenting!
