Sew Dandelions Offers in-Home Fashion Design School

Fashion design is more accessible than ever, thanks to Dominique Kurzawa-Howe. As the owner of Sew Dandelions, she is passionate about empowering individuals to explore their creativity. Her small business – based in New Providence — brings art and textile design courses directly to homes throughout North Jersey.
Sew Dandelions is a unique concept that allows Dominique and her team to visit homes within Union, Essex, and Morris County. (Or anywhere that is within a 30-mile radius of New Providence.) “What sets us apart is our commitment to convenience and flexibility,” she says. “We bring our expert instruction right to students’ homes; with classes available seven days a week from morning to evening.”

Experts in Sewing, and Convenience
Dominique says her target customers are busy parents who want their kids to explore new hobbies. Sometimes, she says, the adults will even join in the lesson! Basic, intermediate, and advanced classes are available in sewing, crocheting, knitting, fashion draping, and fashion illustration.
“All lessons are completely tailored to our students’ needs. Be it someone who already knows how to hold a pair of knitting needles; or someone who is neurodiverse and needs more time to figure things out,” Dominique explains. “No matter what your background is, we’ll transform your creative dreams into tangible reality.”

The school also offers classes for expecting parents and grandparents. This is a great way to make unique items for the baby. In addition, Sew Dandelions offers sewing lessons for scouts, plus art and fashion birthday parties for kids. Businesses can also use the lessons as a team-building exercise. Dominique even hosts lingerie sewing parties for adults, which makes for a unique bachelorette party idea.
About Sew Dandelions
Dominique grew up in Sweden with parents who were both musicians and educators. She received a degree from Parsons School of Design in NYC and worked in fashion design before starting Sew Dandelions. Meanwhile, her husband is a New Jersey native.
“I’ve always been surrounded by a culture of learning and teaching,” she says. “Just as my parents instilled a love for music and learning for me, I’m dedicated to empowering others through education in the arts and crafts that I’m deeply passionate about.”

Dominique says the most rewarding part of her job is meeting new people who share a love of learning. It also delights her to see the moment students understand the capabilities of their work. “When my students are beaming with joy – “look, I made this!”, I’m beyond myself and so proud of them.”
Future plans for Sew Dandelions include opening a studio. Dominique also plans to expand the roster of classes to include fashion design and construction.
