10 Asian Designers to Watch FASHION ASIA HONG KONG
Asia’s fashion industry continues to evolve rapidly, influencing trends far beyond the continent. As a cultural trendsetter, Hong Kong’s colorful fashion scene has undeniably impacted global markets, influencing widespread aesthetics such as preppy dressing or modern minimalism.
Since 2016, FASHION ASIA HONG KONG — organized by the Hong Kong Design Center and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) — has paid homage to this innovative fashion landscape by bringing together leaders in the industry, namely some of the best Asian designers on the scene. This year, as a highlight of the spectacle, the 10 Asian Designers to Watch Exhibition held a spotlight on the synergy and raw talent of many upcoming tastemakers.
Hosted from November 29 to December 1, the “10 Asian Designers to Watch” program showcased and amplified the work of local design talent. The exhibition departed from its traditional format this year, launching a multi-sensory collaboration in partnership with Clockenflap. The display, titled “SOUNDSTITCH,” blended style and sound through interactive designer Sound Diaries, curated design selections and other interactive elements.
This year’s edition of “10 Asian Designers to Watch” included Grace Ling, Juntae Kim, KWK by Kay Kwok, Markgong, Oude Waag, Raxxy, Ruohan, Setchu, tanakadaisuke and YA YI. Each of these designers displayed their own original vision through conceptual designs that push the boundaries and defy expectations.
In addition, this year FASHION ASIA presented an enhanced exhibition format, titled A Showcase of Asian Design Excellence, featuring a curated selection of exceptional past winners included Chen Peng, Christian Stone, Feng Chen Wang, Louis Shengtao Chen, pillings, Ponder.er, Pronounce, Reverie by Caroline Hù, Shuting Qiu, and Windowsen.
This inaugural partnership allowed featured designers to dress selected Clockenflap artists, blurring the lines between performance and style. Performers included Jer Lau from Hong Kong’s boy band Mirror in SETCHU, Thai songstress Violette Wautier in Ponder.er., Hong Kong supergroup R.O.O.T, and Korean rock sensation MEMI in Feng Chen Wang.
The Fashion Challenges Forum was held on November 29th, followed by the opening ceremony of the “10 Asian Designers To Watch” exhibition on November 30th. Explore the world of FASHION ASIA HONG KONG and discover more at fashionasiahk.com.
