The show — with the theme “Timeless Style & Substance” — features 20 collections offering an “eclectic mix of casual, cocktail, club, and avant-garde styles” that reflect each designer’s “future aspirations,” organizers said.

The fashion show takes place Friday, June 14 at 7 p.m. in the CPC Courtyard (adjacent to the Quad) on the SMC Main Campus at 1900 Pico Boulevard. For ticket information visit smc.edu/tickets

The show is preceded at 5 p.m. by the outdoor “Peach Carpet,” which features sponsor giveaways, marketplace stalls and the chance for SMC alums, current students and fashion industry guests to reconnect before the show.

“The truly global collections — reflecting the talents of students who came to SMC from the Los Angeles area, across the United States, and around the world — were developed by students as part of their two-year fashion studies at SMC,” school officials said.

LA Mode 2024 “is a collaborative affair,” with SMC photography students “shooting” the show and the designers’ “look book photos and media and communication students producing and editing interview videos.

Industry professionals, including designers, stylists, costume designers and retailers, will pre-evaluate the collections “up close” on May 30 at SMC’s main campus design studio.

They will select winners in categories that include “marketability, creativity, sustainability, technical achievement, and outstanding collection,” organizers said. The winners will be announced at the event.

The show is sponsored by the Magna Carta Foundation, with the Salvation Army’s Western USA Thrift Stores sponsoring a new sustainability design challenge titled “Transformed Treasures,” where students redesign and give “new life” to “end-of-life” garments.

The evening will also feature the presentation of the eighth annual Style and Substance Award, honoring Jade Sykes, owner of the brand development, wholesale sales and consultancy firm The Gem Agency.

Prizes are donated by Netflix, Tukatech, Aims360, members of the Santa Monica community and LA fashion industry supporters.

Admission to the show is $25 and $20 for college students with an I.D. and can be purchased in advance at smc.edu/tickets with a modest service fee applied.

The SMC Fashion Program offers Associate degrees and certificate programs in both Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising.
